The domain "boysdontcry.org originally stemmed from part of a quote I thought up, which went: "Boys don't cry, real men do.", in reference to my favorite character Yuki Eiri, for my Yuki Eiri site. I loved the concept of the boysdontcry name that I promptly registered for the domain name almost as soon as I made it up.

I knew right from the start that I would like to use the name for my fanlisting collective, which at that time was still hosted at artificial-soul.net. Upon further reflection, I realized that I could make use of the domain name as a little play on words for some of my character shrines, like http://evil.boysdontcry.org for my Sephiroth shrine, or (my personal favorite) http://bad.boysdontcry.org for my Sanosuke shrine.

I was involved with fanlistings as early as 2001; unfortunately, my domain host lost all my files a year or so after, and my lack of knowledge regarding thefanlisting.org rules had me relinquishing all the fanlistings I had until much later.

I went back to fanlistings in early 2005 after I managed to find a better host and a newfound habit of keeping backup files. I opened my first fanlisting early March 2005; I opened my fanlisting collective, Need More Crayons, in May of that same year. After having some trouble with my previous host, I found in Dreamhost the best place to host my new domains. April to October 2006 was spent moving my fanlistings from my old webhost to Dreamhost; the length of which was because I was dissatisfied with most of my layouts and consequently redid most fanlistings before moving them.

boysdontcry.org officially went live on November 4, 2006, sporting a new look.

boysdontcry.org was registered through namecheap, and is currently hosted on dreamhost. The fanlisting collective itself uses a host of scripts including Enthusiast, Dodosmail, and BellaBuffs. All fanlistings are a part of thefanlistings.org, the animefanlistings.org, the , and the physical listings networks. All fanlisting subjects belong to their respective creators.
